Hey,

Last week a group of us checked out Manuel's Original El Tepeyac for their famous Burritos.

My roommate, his friend and I split a Manuel's Special (Chile Verde Pork). A nearly $20 creation meant to feed an entire family.

Eat the whole thing solo in under an hour (nearly impossible) and join their wall of fame.

The three of us just barely finished it. And it was amazing. Often giant "novelty" items like this lack flavor but this monster was a layered treat.

Maybe someday I'll try and eat it myself. Someday.

Earlier this month I went to Vegas for some top-tier insanity. Just a taste from 'The Buffet' at Aria.

Also this month.

Pulled Pork Sandwich from Oinkster in Eagle Rock. Damn near perfect.

Checked out Juicy Burger for some custom Burger action. Incredibly decent.

Eastside Market and Deli. Good sandwiches but they close at 4pm, so you have to wake up early to enjoy it.

Back to Cole's. For the Beef French Dip. Awesome. All I'm gonna say.

Hey,

Lady and I went to 8oz Burger Bar for the first time. We started with the Grilled Artichoke appetizer, which was fantastic, maybe the best bite of the whole meal.

Main course, I went with the Lamb Burger with a side of Baby Broccoli.

Becky had the classic 8oz Burger with Thick Cut Garlic Fries.

Overall, everything was pretty good. I like how 8oz has a full bar and all the sides and apps looked great but in terms of Burgers, Umami still has the edge.

It comes down to the Bun. These were too big and fluffy, each bite had so much Bread and you lose some flavor.

The meat party continues. I went to Hoagie Steak Out in Hollywood for a little taste of Philly. My buddy went with the 3 Pepper Scarface.

I opted for the Teriyaki Samurai (with Chicken add $1)

And an order of Cheese Fries to wash it all down.

These bad boys were awesome. Huge, lots of flavor and super satisfying. It's really the great Bread that makes the Steak sing. Most sandwiches start around $5.75.

If you are looking for a challenge try the Braveheart.

And in case you are wondering.

I ate it all. That Samurai didn't stand a chance.

Over the last few months I have been rethinking my views on meat. I've added some Poultry back into my diet and things are going good.

Last week I joined some friends in Korea Town for a Birthday Dinner. We met at Soot Bull Jeep, a Korean BBQ joint. My friend ordered for the table. The various cuts are cooked table-side over the charcoal grill.

It smelled and looked incredible.

So I dove in. My first taste of Beef in 10 years.

I don't know what to say. The food was great and now I have a taste for flesh. Watch out.

I was all pumped to visit the Lobsta Truck, but they cancelled service today. So I decided to swing by Wendy's to try their new Natural Cut Fries with Sea Salt.

And for comparison reasons, Becky picked up some Fries from the rival chains.

After a round of tasting. The three judges (me, Becky and roommate Trent) found the new Wendy's Fries to be best. They had both good Salt and Potato flavor.

Burger King came in second place and McDonald's finished last.

But the real loser here was me. Cause after eating all those Fries, I felt like shit. Goddamn fast food.

Hey,

Just woke up from my post Thanksgiving meal nap. Another great holiday here in LA. The roommates and I threw down on a traditional feast. The day started with football heartbreak and Bloody Marys.

We moved onto to some apps. Spinach Dip and Cold Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce. Another hour later, Michael's Turkey came out of the oven.

The main meal: The Bird, Mashed Potatoes, Mushroom Gravy, Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallows, Grilled Asparagus, Cauliflower Gratin, Cranberry Sauce, and Homemade Biscuits.

I put down two plates in record time. Everything was awesome. I even had some of the Turkey. Yeah, that's right. Turkey. It was good too. I don't really know what this means for the future, but If the circumstances were right I could see myself eating meat again.

After melting into the couch for a few, we headed to a buddies for some Apple Crumble Pie, Homemade Pumpkin Pie and some Board games.

Back at the house. Relaxing by the fireplace. Another round of Dessert. A piece of Pumpkin and Pecan Pie and three fingers of Whiskey.

My post about Cafe Tropical has lead me to take a second look at Gigi's Bakery and Cafe. Just down the block, this place has all the makings for a new obsession. No Breakfast Sandwiches, but that's okay because the Huevos Rancheros is $5.25 and really satisfying.

It's really the Plantains that pull everything together.

My Cafe con Leche, was good but I still like Tropical's better.

Next up: Porto's and Mambo's.

Maybe I should start eating Pork so I can really weigh in on this topic?

Hey,

Went to newly opened Kodoku for some Sushi. The menu has a deep selection of Rolls and other favorites as well as a full section of Japanese style Tapas.

Started with Miso Soups and complementary Sautéed Edamame.

So good.

Next, we had the Green Mussels.

Maybe the bite of the night.

Then things started to get serious. Spider Crab Roll.

Then, out of nowhere, a Tofu Salad appeared. The Waitress said it was from the Owner. Score.

It went perfect with the rest of the food.

Baked Lobster Roll.

Rainbow Roll.

And after all that. I ask for the bill but instead some Green Tea Ice Cream showed up.

The owner must have known about my blog. I've never had anyone bribe me to write a good review before. Well, it worked. The Lady and I feasted like kings and escaped only paying for the few Rolls and the appetizer. Can't wait to try more of the menu.

Recently, it's been all about Cafe Tropical. I go at least once a week for Coffee and maybe a bite. As far as I can tell, all the Baked goods and Pastries are tasty. The Guava Pie is especially stand out.

Yesterday I went for A medium Coffee and a Veggie Sandwich with Avocado. I really planned on taking pictures and doing a regular post but as soon as I got home things changed. I ate everything super fast, drank my Coffee and then passed out.

Needless to say, they have a good thing going on.

Saturday night dinner at Gobi Mongolian BBQ. Just like super chain BD's Mongolian Grill, this place lets you combine your choice of Meats and Veggies to be cooked on the giant iron grill.

Grab a bowl, ($9.95 for lunch $13.95 for dinner) pick your Proteins, Vegetables, add Noodles and try one of the Sauce combinations.

My man on the grill does the rest.

My plate was good but I'm convinced that whatever you pick, it all ends up tasting the same. Lucky for them, it's a good taste.

A few notes:

This place is NOT all you can eat.

A second trip is $4 at lunch and $6 at dinner.

The Lady and I headed downtown to Wurstkuche for some brew hall delights. A Chimay and a Spaten. Fries with more than a few dipping options (score) and a couple of their finest links.

Becky opted for the Rabbit/Veal/Pork with White Wine Sausage topped with Onions. I feasted on the Veggie Italian with Sweet Peppers and Sauerkraut and a Veggie Mexican Chipotle with Hot Peppers and Onions.

Hey,

The diner district south of Sunset Junction has a new member. K2, the offspring of Kokomo, is in the middle of their soft open. I visited twice this week and had mixed feelings.

First, Becky and I came for Breakfast. The Catfish and Eggs and French Toast.

I really wanted to like this but my Eggs were over cooked and the Catfish was lost in the breading. At least the Potatoes were good. Across the table, the French Toast was average but the Coffee was solid.

Today, I came in for lunch. I had the Ahi Tuna Burger with Fries.

The Ahi was seared just right but the sandwich needed a little something extra. Still pretty good. I cleaned my plate.

Their soon to be expanded menu has something interesting choices so I'm sure I'll be back to check in on their progress.

Sunday was the season premiere of Mad Men. A few bodies came over to watch. I decided to make a simple summer Cocktail. An Arnold Palmer if you will.

Just add 1 container Lemonade. 1 bottle Sweet Tea Vodka and some sliced Lemon in your favorite pitcher and enjoy over rocks.

But be careful because this is drink is strong. So don't drive home unless you are really good at drinking and driving (like all my friends are).

I have lived in LA for over 3 years and I'm still finding new places all the time. Yesterday, Becky and I went to Tarascos Mexican Restaurant. This off Sunset eatery has an awesome shaded outdoor area that goes perfectly with some fresh bites.

Nachos.

Overall, pretty good stuff. The Tacos were tasty and the Nachos were exactly what I wanted. Go on Tues for $1 Tacos. You're welcome.

Now that the World Cup is over, my world can go back to normal. No more waking up for 7 am games, drinking all morning, sleeping the days away. Well hopefully there will still be a little bit of early drinking and excessive napping.

This weekend was full of events. On sat, Becky and I went to a little birthday soirée. Good times complete with Champagne fountain and Cucumber Sandwiches. Very classy.

Also, a cute dog named Pablo.

Sunday. Woke up early, got a dozen from Brooklyn Bagels and did some pre-game brunching.

Then we were off to the Gold Room for Beers, Shots, and screaming during the WC finals.

It was both of my roommates b-days this week. We went Cole's downtown to celebrate.

Cole's claims to be the originator of the French Dip. I'm sure Philippe has something to say about that.

Beyond the famous sandwiches, Cole's makes a mean cocktail. A few samplings from the table. Moscow Mule (above).

A real Daiquiri.

Old Fashioned, with Bourbon. Perfectly made.

I let the kids enjoy the dips while I had a Caesar Salad, Mac n Cheese, some of those amazing Atomic Pickles. And another drink.

Breakfast (around 2pm) with Alex and Shawn. Went to Lulu's Cafe. Their early morning offerings are varied and vast but I find myself getting the same thing at almost every place.

It goes like this: Pancakes and F. Toast sound good but I'm not much of a sweets guy so I decide on Eggs. Then I scan the Omelets and Bennies till something jumps out at me. After much back and forth, I land on something with south of the border ingredients.

The Spanish Scramble with Fruit. Eggs, Cheddar, Black Beans on top of Tortillas with Pico, Sour and Guac.

So good.

Hey,

I'd like to talk about a new project that I am starting (unlike the Pickle project that I never started).

Yesterday I bought a bag of Sun Chips and the bag is supposed to be made of some kind of plant based material that will naturally breakdown. So the plan is to:

1. eat all the Chips.

2. add the bag to the compost pile.

3. take pictures each week to chart the progress.

It should take between 13-15 weeks to fully decompose.

Also, I'm going to Michigan this weekend and I'm sure there will be all sorts of stuff to eat there so stay tuned.

Quick Echo Park update. First off, the Taco Bell on Rampart and Beverly has re-opened after the recent construction. The building is in the exact same spot and is nearly the same. Only taller. Drive-Thru hours are till 2am every night and 4am on Fri/Sat. Still no dining room.

Also, a Little Caesars has opened on Echo Park and Montana. $5 Hot and Readys.

Becky took me to Malo for a pre B-day meal. Monday is their 'Taco Night', which offers many of their tastiest for as little as $1.

The place was jumping so we ordered a drink at the bar while we waited for a table. Half a Margarita later, we sat down with some Chips, Salsa and a big old boat of Guacamole.

The menu features 13 different Tacos. I choose one each of the following:

It was quite the feast. Each Taco is small but full of flavor. The stand outs were the Potato Chipotle and of course the Lobster. Which may be the most decadent Taco ever made. So buttery, so good. If I was an evil Millionaire, that is all I would eat.

Overall, Malo is awesome. Strong drinks, tasty bites, and goat heads on the wall. Come Tuesdays for Margarita Night or try their Brunch menu.

I just found out the Malo is owned by the same team that owns Spaceland, The Echoplex and El Prado. Those dudes got the LA hipsters dead to rights.

Hey,

Last night a group of us went to the newly opened Beer and Wine bar 1642. Located on Temple just west of Glendale this place is literally .3 miles away from my house. Needless to say, I'm very excited.

A relaxed interior matched with a handful of select labels make this a perfect place for a causal drink. Think El Prado but without the scene (at least for now). Most liquids run between $5-8. If you are on a budget then get a can of Cold Spring Beer. It's 32 oz and only $5. Not bad.

Let's see how long it takes the owner to learn my name.

Hey,

The team and I started the day at Larchmont Bungalow. Coffee, Breakfast and bullshitting.

A few offerings from the table.

The Breakfast Panini.

Red Velvet Pancakes.

"Best of Both Worlds" Pancakes and French Toast (for Becky, duh).

And of course, I opt for the Jewiest option available. The Latkes and Lox. Which were incredible.

The meal was great. Everything done well and there was fresh Fruit as far as the eye can see. This is becoming one of my go-to spots for Brunch.

The party continued at home with Bloody Marys.

Hours later. Garage Pizza was ordered. Best move ever.

All in all, this was a pretty decent holiday.

Did a quick meal with the lady at It's Thai. Started with some Fried Wantons and then split Panang Curry with Tofu and the Seafood Pad Thai. Both were excellent (as usual). Bold combos with the right amount of sweet and spicy. Just what I needed.

I tried taking some pics but it was too dark inside accurately capture the magic on my plate.

Easily the tastiest portion of the meal would have to be the beautiful ladies who served us. What is going on in this place? The joint was not that busy but still there were three smoking babes working the floor. Hot damn.

Hey,

Yesterday, Becky and I ventured downtown to Loose Leaf for lunch. Build your own Salad is the name of the game. Tons of choices and nearly 44 billion different permutations. I went with the base of Mixed Greens, Tofu for my premium, added Onion, Red Pepper, Chickpeas, Olives, Tomatoes with their Avocado Dressing.

It was pretty good. It was also $10. No reason to make a special trip here but if you're in the area and you're fiending for a Cobb done just the way you like it, then enjoy.

That night we made out way to Pho Cafe in Silverlake. This joint has no sign or name on it so just play it cool like you've been there before or the regulars might kill and eat you.

A simple menu offers various Springs Rolls, Pho, Noodles and Beer. We split some crispy Rolls and each had a Pho (Veggie for me and Steak for the lady).

It was great. I love Soup in all forms and this was no exception. Add in a little Sriracha and you're in business.

About 6 minutes later.

I was done. Becky still had a ways to go.

Nice clean flavors, fast service and big ass bowls of Soup. What else could you ask for?

Hey,

Last night was a solid good time. Started with some Champagne and waited for the Appetizer station to open. Overloaded a plate, cleared it and went back for more.

With my second serving, I made the switch to Beer (Amstel Light). The first offerings included Salad bar, Veggie platters, Cheese, Bread and various cold bites. The show started and Dinner was served.

There were two set ups: one Italian and one Asian/Chinese. I started with the Chinese. Mixed Vegetable Stir Fry and Sweet Glazed Shrimp. Another Amstel. Then across the ballroom for Farfelle Pesto, Cheese Ravioli, Garlic Bread and Pizza.

I let that all settle and slipped off to the restroom. A pull from the flask (Jim Beam) and we are ready for more.

A pause in eating. Another round. Then the Dessert table began service. I waited for the line to die down. Got some Creme Carmel, a piece of Cake and a cup of Coffee.

With my belly full, I took a break from the action while they presented "Best Foreign Film". Another trip to the restroom.

One last Beer. The big awards. Then ended my night with a Champagne toast to "The Hurt Locker".

Time to leave.

Overall, another good party, but the Food quality was average and the Bar was sans Liquor. If my friends and my flask weren't there then I don't know what kind of night I would have had.

At least I didn't puke.

Hey,

Tonight is Oscars. Since moving here, I have spent every year at a black tie party thrown by my alma mater. They rent out a ballroom at the Universal Hilton and do it up. Previous years have boasted an open Bar, huge dinner Buffet and valet parking all for a reasonable price.

The 2010 event has the most costly tickets yet ($40-50) and the bar will only serve Beer, Wine and Champagne. Also, the dinner used to include a Sushi bar that has since been removed from the festivities.

With each increasing year, the tickets are more money and the party gets scaled back. This may very well be my last time attending. So, to maximize my enjoyment I will eat and drink as much as humanly possible. Tune in tomorrow to read all about my efforts in gluttony.

Hopefully I don't puke and Hurt Locker takes some gold.

A nice classy Sunday dinner at Pizza Buona.

Becky had the Linguini with Clams and Shrimp while I enjoyed the Cheese Ravioli. Each came with a Salad and Garlic Bread. Miller Lites in frosted mugs washed down everything rather nicely.

I've always loved the Pizza here, but the Pasta may be just as good. The only trouble with eating this much Italian is that it always leads to me making lots of racist jokes. Usually about Mario.

Yesterday was Fat Tuesday aka Mardi Gras or known by some as Paczki Day. This was a real big deal back in Hamtramck and I was determined this year to get some real Polish style Paczki.

After doing some research online, I found a few Polish restaurants but none of them were making Paczki. I read one post that claimed that next door to this Polish church you could buy the real stuff. Hopped in the car and tracked down the address.

Nothing at the church, but the goods were supposed to be next door at the retirement home. After some snooping around, I found the entrance.

I made my way inside. From all the art on the walls I knew I was in the right place.

Some older gentleman appeared and after a short conversation he led me to the kitchen where we exchanged $9 for half dozen Paczki. Back at home, the feast began.

So good. Just like I remembered.

Went to the Chateau Marmont for Brunch.

Becky started with a Cappuccino and Mimosa. I had a Bloody Mary. We then split the Brioche French Toast, Huevos Rancheros, and a big ass bowl of Berries.

It was a near perfect outing. Except I asked our waiter for some Olives for my drink and he never brought them. And then, like the god damn Twilight Zone, all the tables around me ordered Bloody Marys and they all came with Olives! WTF.

The lady and I hit the Nickel Diner for dinner last night. This trendy downtown spot is known for its Breakfast and their homemade baked goods. If you have the heart (and stomach) try their famous Bacon Glazed Donuts.

We kept it simple and tried the Salmon and the Grilled Veggie Pasta. Both entrees were good but not great. The real star of the meal was the Dessert.

Say hello to the Smores cake. They even torch the Marshmallow right at your table. Easily the best and most dangerous part of our meal. If you are coming to the Nickel, better leave room for something sweet.

Sunday morning Alex and I picked up a keg of PBR for the game. Most of the people we invited did not show so the task was left to only a few of us to try and finish all that Beer. We put a decent dent in the barrel but after two days of boozing there seems to still be a little bit of that award winning brew left.

As mentioned earlier, the solid portion of the event was Hungry Howie's Pizza. Which was imported from Glendale. We did four pies: two Meat, one Veggie, one Cheese, plus Bread and Cheese Bread. Howie's is the hands down king of cheap Za. All that food was around $45 and it easily fed the whole group. The key to HH is the flavored crust that comes in eight varieties: Sesame, Cajun, Butter, Garlic Herb, Onion, Ranch, Original and Butter Cheese.

We did Garlic Herb, Cajun and Butter Cheese (twice). But I suggest you mix and match till you find your favorite combination.

Sundance was a blast. Lots of stories but few food related. When we arrived in Park City we went food shopping and tried to eat at home as much as possible. Still made it out to a few spots on main street but nothing really worth commenting on. Mostly over priced bar food.

Ski communities not too big on vegetarian cuisine.

So I got most of my daily calories from alcohol.

First off, Utah has weird booze laws so when ordering Beer check the label or else you may need to have double the amount just to get the same buzz. Thankfully the elevation evens that out.

A nice find was the local brewery that makes Polygamy Porter. Their motto "Why just have one".

On the drive home, we did manage to eat at McDonald's, Subway and Taco Bell. Which is a KFC away from all four horsemen off the apocalypse.

Another Sunday, another round of Football and Pizza. This time Pizza Hut was tested. We ordered online again but somehow it got screwed up and we had to call and re-order. Not a good start.

The current promotion is $10 for any size, crust, and toppings. Three large Pies and Breadsticks finally came (also some bonus Wings because of the mix up). First impression: fairly good. For sure better than Domino's. The Sauce, Cheese and Crust are all superior. The Hut has never done Veggies well but everything was still satisfactory.

The key is to get the Pan style. I made the terrible mistake of getting Hand-tossed. Next time.

The Super Bowl is in two weeks. But the Pizza contract will go out to my favorite joint from back in Michigan. All hail Howie.

Four hungry dudes arguing about where to go. "Somewhere none of us have been". We drive and drive looking.

We pass Green Leaves on Hillhurst and declare the search is over. The place is Vegan which pleases everyone except for one, but we force him inside.

For no reason, wicked looking guitars line the walls. We sit and open the phone book sized menus. Too much to pick from. I can't decide. Send the waitress away. She comes back and I panic. Alex orders a Wrap and a bowl of Soup. Jord gets the Breakfast Burrito and some Fried Tofu to start. The Meat-eater, Forest, decides on the Pancake special and all the attention comes back to me. I end up doing the Soy Chicken Dinner.

Food comes out. Everything looks good. We say grace and dig in.

I tried some of each plate save for Alex's Wrap (greedy asshole). My food was pretty good. The fake Fried Chicken was enjoyable but a bit strange because it was almost too much like real Meat. It kinda freaked me out. Overall positive, but I need to get deeper into the menu before a full opinion can be reached.

The Lady and I went downtown to Royal Clayton's. Cool looking pub with a good Beer selection. We tired the Fish and Chips and had a few pints. I really wanted to love the food, but it was only alright. The Fish pieces were huge but the Batter could have been lighter and crispier. The Fries just decent enough.

They offer all sorts of other Pub fair which may or may not be good. Come here if you are looking for a drink in the industrial part of town. Perfect for a pre-heist meeting.

Ordered some of Domino's new and improved Pizza. $5.99 gets you a medium, two topping pie. A group of us got three Pizzas and Cheesy Bread to soak up some of the beer while we watched football. We ordered online so we did not have to talk to anyone.

The verdict.

Slightly better than before, but not great. The biggest improvement is the Crust. Which is less chewy and more flavorful. The Sauce is still too sweet but seems tastier. The Cheese is a let down. All in all, it is still crappy Pizza. But it is cheap crappy Pizza. So the situation may arise where I could see myself ordering it again.

Dinner with Becky at Desert Rose. Nice outdoor area makes it look prime for Brunch but we sat indoors cause of the cold.

We did the Blue Crab Cakes, bowls of the Lobster Bisque and the Roasted Eggplant Soup to start and then moved to a pair of Salads (the Greek and House). For a light meal, the bill sure did climb fast. Everything was tasty but nothing special. They do offer a large Wine menu and a full bar.

I'll try this place again for some weekend Breakfast and maybe that will change things.

My main beef with this place is that big 'artistic' rose sculpture thing out front. It looks terrible. I hate it. The more I talk about it, the more angry I get.

Alright, I need to leave and calm down.

Becky and I recently celebrated our 3 year anniversary at Cliff's Edge. This Silverlake location has a great patio/courtyard that just screams "sexy anniversary dinner".

We started with drinks and Steamed Mussels. Next course, Becky had the Filet Mignon while I enjoyed the Barramundi. It ended with a Pear and Apple Cobbler. And you better believe that Cobbler had Ice Cream on it. Cause that's how we do.

Everything was sublime. Honestly, a top 5 eating experience since moving west. You don't have to be celebrating to enjoy this place, but it sure does help.

It's been a long time coming, but fuck the Brite Spot. It used to be a decent neighborhood joint that was open late and had quality food. But since I arrived 3 years ago, this place has steadily gone down hill.

1. The menu has been cut in half.

2. Most items are $2-$4 over priced.

3. The service is inconsistent.

4. Hours keep changing.

5. And most importantly, I just ate there and it sucked.

If you need Diner head to Millie's. And for late night, try Fred 62 or Swingers.

Pure Luck for lunch yesterday. God Damn, it was tasty. We ordered nearly everything and it was all great. The only problem with going to a place like Pure Luck is that it makes other Veggie spots look like lazy assholes. Folks spend so much effort trying to make Soy taste like Meat that they forget about other options.

Let me introduce Jack Fruit. This super Wizard food has an amazing texture and flavor that is unlike anything on the Veg market.

Hit up the new mobil eatery. The Grilled Cheese Truck. Becky and I caught vehicle downtown by the Disney Music Hall. They post the locations on Twitter, so you need to be cool to find it.

We split the Caprese Melt, the Harvest Melt and a Tomato Soup. Lots of positive to report here, but unfortunately the Sandwiches were not completely melted. Hopefully these guys get their act together because everybody wants Cheese on the go.

Tons of leftovers. Both a blessing and a curse. Everything was so good, but I still feel like I'm digesting from two days ago.

Day 3

We drove to the Redhook Brewery for a tour of the facility. $1 grants access into the inner workings of the fermentation and bottling plant. Our guide Spencer, poured samples of their famous craft beer while dishing out knowledge and one-liners.

The tour was both very educational and tasty. I have a new found appreciation for Redhook products. If you are ever in the Seattle area and you like beer then you must indulge. At the very least, the trip is an economical buzz. Because you get 6 or 7 half pints of high grade beer (most variety around 5%-7% alcohol by volume) and they let you keep your glass.

While cleaning some dishes I managed to severely hurt myself. Some dried pasta had crusted to the bottom of a pot and when I tried to scrap it off, a large piece got wedged under the fingernail on my right thumb.

It hurt. Bad.

Tweezers and a few bloody pulls removed the intruder but the damage was done. Fuck you pasta. You just started something you'll never be able to finish.

Day 1

The Wallingford Pizza House. A large 'Famous Spinach' pie flanked by pitchers of Scuttlebutt Nitro. Cheap risque conversation, jokes and memories. We tipped well and stormed off into the brisk night air.

I didn't know it then, but I was about to get Ice Cream and it was going to delicious.

Enter Molly Moon's. Homemade Waffle Cones, gourmet flavors surrounded by a sea of bundled patrons. A kid's scoop of Salted Caramel. Maybe the best I've ever had.

I looked to my friends and asked "Is this heaven?" and they replied "No, it's just the Wallingford section of South Central Seattle."

That night I dreamt of what amazing treats have yet still to come.

Hit up Cactus Mexican Food #2 yesterday for dinner. I went with the Veggie Tacos. They were small but loaded. Plenty of Avocado and with some Lime and Salsa they made a solid meal. No way better than the Taco Zone but you can't go to the well every time.

This off Beverly location has its own parking, takes credit cards and offers outdoor seating. Mix in a large menu with many vegetarian options and you're left with a decent Mexican joint that can provide a quick bite for those with better places to visit. But like most sequels they use too much CG and don't focus enough on the story.

I've had better, but I'll also probably go back...

Earlier this week, Becky and I went to The Park for their $5 Burger Wednesdays. The deal offers either the Sirloin or Veggie Burger with your choice of side (Fries, Salad, or Potato Salad). Premium toppings up the price of the meal but are definitely worth it.

I enjoyed Mushrooms, Garlic, Guryere and homemade Aoili on my Burger, which was made perfectly. For sure one of the better bites I've had in awhile. We did have to wait around 30 minutes to be seated because the place was packed. But for good food, I'd wait indefinitely.

Maybe they should get those beeper things they use at Outback Steakhouse.

The Park also has a $5 Sandwich lunch special Tues-Fri from 11:00-2:30. And with a pending liquor license this local joint is quickly becoming the top destination for cheap, quality gourmet eats.

Hey,

We signed our lease for another year in Echo Park. I'm pumped. This area has blessed me with tons of great eats.

Today I went to Ostioneria Colima No 2. A Mexican Seafood stand located directly next to the Alvarado freeway ramp. I know what you're thinking. And no, I did not need to call ahead for a reservation.

I ordered at the window. The wall boasts menus in both Spanish and English. My Shrimp and Octopus Cocktail was fantastic. So fresh and flavorful. The perfect hot day treat. I rounded out the meal with a Ceviche Tostada and a Sprite. Nothing like eating tentacle while listening to the soothing hum of speeding traffic. It's almost like being at a Mexican version of NASCAR or the Kentucky Derby.

Next time I'll have to try their Seven Seas Soup that looked just like a bowl of deep water happiness.
